Interannual Modulation of Kuroshio in the East China Sea Over the Past Three Decades

نویسندگان

چکیده

Previous studies have suggested that westward-migrating mesoscale eddies are a dominant factor modulate the interannual Kuroshio intensity in East China Sea (ECS), indicating close positive correlation between them. According to extended record of altimetry-based sea level anomalies (SLAs) until 2020, however, variation no longer has strong with eddy activity subtropical countercurrent (STCC) region since early 2000s. Our observational analyses showed ECS can be modulated by combined effect and westward-propagating oceanic planetary waves from east. Until 2000s, variability was mainly affected migration STCC region, associated instability driven large-scale wind patterns over western North Pacific. Since then, propagating westward across Pacific basin largely ECS-Kuroshio superimposing SLAs related propagated towards east Taiwan.

Kuroshio Meanders in the East China Sea

An array of seven inverted echo sounders was moored along and across the Kuroshio in the East China Sea for more than one year. The data from this array show evidence of energetic meanders with periods of 7, 11, and 16 days. The respective phase velocities of these meanders are 28, 20, and 17 km day21 downstream. The 7and 16-day waves are intermittent, but the 11-day waves are present throughou...

Observations of Kuroshio flow variations in the East China Sea

[1] Kuroshio velocity structure and transport in the East China Sea (ECS) were investigated as part of a 23-month study using inverted echo sounders and acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) along the regularly sampled PN-line. Flow toward the northeast is concentrated near the continental shelf with the mean surface velocity maximum located 30 km offshore from the shelf break (taken as th...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Deep Atmospheric Response to the Spring Kuroshio over the East China Sea*

The atmospheric response to the spring Kuroshio Front over the East China Sea is investigated using a suite of high-resolution satellite data and a regional atmospheric model. The atmospheric response appears to extend beyond the marine atmospheric boundary layer, with frequent occurrence of cumulus convection. In spring, Quick Scatterometer (QuikSCAT) wind speed shows a clear effect of sea sur...
